Blog Post #12 Social Media Page

A social media page is a page mainly used for content sharing, communication, interaction and collaboration.

Most artists and musicians nowadays have social media pages to promote their work and raise their public profile, it is also a great medium and platform to interact with fanbases to create bonds and connections.

The key conventions to a social media page may include:

-Photos

-Videos

-Texts/articles

-Links to merchandise or more social media pages that targets on a different aspect to the artist(some artists may have a separate page that posts more daily or 'authentic' content about themselves.

Billie Eilish's Instagram page

Elements:

-A link to her official website (billieeilish.com)

-'View Shop' button that takes you straightaway to Billie's merchandise

-3 'story' albums:

1.💫 : a more casual, day-to-day compilations of her stories

2. Vegan recipes: shows that she is a vegan & potentially reduce emotional proximity between fans as cooking is often linked to warmth and home.

3. JUSTICE: a series of social topics Billie Eilish cares about

-Photos & videos from her tours

-Photos promoting her new fragrance 'Eilish 2.0'

-Video promoting her performance in TV series 'Swarm'

-Billie Eilish's content is fairly diverse with professional content about her career, collaborations with teaser videos.

-There are also casual and funny photos of Billie Eilish which would make her audience feel more relatable and see her humane side rather than just the glamour star persona.

Adele's social media page on Instagram

In contrast, Adele's social media page is more career-focused where the majority of her content circles around her performances, up-coming events etc.

-There is also a link to her official website listed in her bio(www.adele.com)

-Promoting Adele's upcoming songs and links to online shop to buy or download songs.

Adele's Instagram page is covered with low-key lighting, warm tones photos of her performance delivering a very elegant style and further illustrates her song genre as grand, serious as well as emotional.

As opposed to Billie Eilish' page which included more 'casual' content creating a sense of watching something more personal to Billie Eilish, this is effective nowadays in a postmodern society where audiences yearn for authenticity especially from celebrities. In this sense, Billie Eilish's posts could be considered more effective. However, because the trend is to be 'authentic' on social media now, a great deal of artists do so, as a result, Adele's more serious account could be considered more unique and encourage a lot of respect for her professionalism especially since she has been very established and loved for decades now. To conclude, the styles and audiences are different for each artist which would lead to varied choices and results in their social media pages.

--My Social Media Page(Instagram)--

Elements I have included for my socials page:

Bio

-Profession label as 'Artist'

-Including upcoming events in bio so audiences may instantly notice when entering my page. For instance, I am promoting the release of GOLDWING music video. This is made more efficient by including a link to the official website for the GOLDWING music video

- I have also set one of the digipak elements to my profile picture. The style of the profile photo fits within the aesthetic of Billie Eilish and the abstract style generates a conceptual and flexible image of the artist rather than a fixed label which is against Billie Eilish's intention.

Story

-I have added 3 story albums, one fully dedicated to the music video 'GOLDWING' including teaser contents as well as crucial dates for sales.

-The 'we are one' album promotes equality, inclusivity and diversity. Allowing me to share my opinions and ideas as well as charity/action events to help improve such issues around the world.

-The 'behind the scenes' album illustrates the different locations Arina and I went to film GOLDWING at.

I used the editing software--'Fen Tu' which means 'separate images' in Mandarin, this app helps separate a photo into 9 pieces to create a more aesthetic and spectacular feeling when put on the social media page.

1st post: using hashtag and enigmatic/vague caption to attract audience's curiosity

2nd Post: Reels teaser = 4 second video of Arina twirling in the water's reflection with the first line 'he hath come' from the song 'GOLDWING'

3rd post: A teaser reel of me dancing Chinese dance at the great wall with only the beginning 10 seconds of the song

4th post: I posted a casual style 'PLOG' including bloopers still surrounding the music video to hype the audience but also to portray me as more of an approachable and warm artist.

5th post: Still keeping within the context of the music video with behind the scenes photos. I put Bruce Lee's quote about being like water as I thought the meaning behind the quote also fits the music video, as essentially, my character adapts and also water is one of our crucial themes.

6th post: hyping the audience with more varied looks from the music video GOLDWING, engaging the audience to guess what theme, message and song style.

Maintaining a sense of mysteriousness by hiding part of my face---not revealing the whole look, or else it would spoil the surprise.

7th post: revealing the release date 5th of May! After promoting the release through many teasers, it is important to give the audience a targeted date for them to look forward to and focus on.

8th post: another reel with a short clip of around 6 seconds of me swimming across the camera, reminding the audience that there are two days left until the release of GOLDWING.

9th post: This is a post about promoting more of my performances, keeping the fanbase interested and aware of what other projects I have on. Not only does this allow me to expand my target audience, it also builds a more holistic image of me on social media.

10th post: a funny photo of when I was small to depict my energetic, quirky personality. By typing out 'Are you ready kids?' as well as the semiotics of the mustache from the photo, audiences are directed to link to the opening of Spongebob Squarepants and would potentially encourage them to respond in the comments area 'Aye aye Captain!' boosting engagement between star and fan.

11th & 12th post: Another reminder for the audience that GOLDWING will come out in 2 hours, this also illustrates my excitement as an artist to show my art to more people.

Post 13---21: This is the cut version of my digipak cover with 9 separate frames:

Post 22nd---Here is the scheduled sale for the digipak, I also added 'with 500 limited signed editions' to boost audience engagement as well as sales, 500 being a large numbe,r further improves the image of the star.

Post 23rd: By using big size minimalist fonts for the promotion of sales is very effective as it catches user's eyes straightaway, the directions how to purchase are clear, hence easy to follow.

Arina and I also organized a live streaming event on the 25th of May to talk about the stages in creating a music video as well as funny bloopers of Arina.
